We started operating in Argentina in January 2016 and with an exponential growth due to the promotions of the RenovAr Program.
Nowadays, we have in Argentina our largest operations, with a very important team deployed in various work spaces throughout the country. In these first three years we have provided Project and Works Management services for more than 800MW and also executed important solar projects, where we put into practice all the know-how and experience gained from having built more than 30 wind and solar projects and having managed projects for more than 300MW. Ventus carried out the construction of a dozen wind projects of up to 10 MW and a 1 MWp solar roof top self-generation Project.

Why 10 megawatts?
Several years ago Uruguay granted specific tax benefits for industries the invested in renewables. Through this opportinity we managed to attract several companies for the construction of wind farms. Paralelly, we saw that in Uruguay there was a very marked interest of the industries to supply themselves with renewable energies. Due to this, we began to build wind and solar farms for industries in their backyards, or in their floors or roofs because solar technology is much better suited to pre-existing structures.
In Uruguay, the use of renewable energy has largely reached to meet demand, which has allowed the country to sell energy to Argentina or Brazil. In fact, Ventus was the first private agent to sell renewable energy outside of Uruguay.

How much energy are they exporting and how are you doing it?
The trading is done through CAMMESA and through weekly packages. Along with UTE, a significant amount of energy is exported.

How much power did Ventus install in Uruguay?
In Uruguay we built 16 wind farms with a power of 100 MW and another 16 solar farms, between 50 kWp and 1 MWp for industrial self consumption. In fact, we are currently building the largest solar farm for industrial self-consumption in Uruguay. It is a 1 MWp park for an industry linked to the plastic sector. In Uruguay, as a result of tax benefits and thanks to an investment promotion law that was enacted about 10 years ago, industries turned to these sources.

How is Ventus Argentina doing?
I believe that we entered Argentina at the right moment and the result has been very positive. We have grown steadily since our beginnings and today we are consolidated as one of the leading companies in the sector. We started with a small office in the Belgrano area with a small team. We grew rapidly, supported by several important contracts that were the result of projects awarded in RenovAr Ronda 1, and today the team has about 65 employees, approximately half in offices and the other in construction. As of today, we can say that we have worked for 60% of the MW awarded in the RenvoAr and MATER rounds.

For solar technology, are you working in any projects?
We are working in the Cordillera Solar Park where we execute the electrical assembly of medium and low voltage. It is a 93 MWp solar farm located in the Province of San Juan, where we employ about 60 people, practically all of them from the area.

This is a high number…
We have executed different contracts, from development, engineering, management, supervision and even construction for projects over 3000 MW. Among our clients are the main market players such as Central Puerto, Pampa Energía, Envision Energy, YPF, Nordex Acciona and PAE.

Ventus develops the projects from the measurement of the resource until the end of the project?
We have a department of specialists that is dedicated to the survey of the renewable resource-fundamental for the success of a project-but where Ventus really is a specialist is in the construction «turnkey» (every farm has a stage of development, study of the resource , basic and detail engineering, what is the logistic management, what is the transport, the coordination and transport, the supervision of the assembly, and start-up).

Ventus’s specialization is construction. What services can you offer for Mini Ren?
The next month of May will be the presentation of offers of Round 3 MiniRen that will offer 400 MW of power throughout the country, to be connected in medium voltage networks of 13.2 kV, 33 kV and 66 kV , and whose maximum allowed power will be 10 MW.
Ventus has unique experience and know-how in Argentina in regards to the construction of projects of these sizes in an efficient manner. Why? Because we learned in Uruguay building identical projects during the last 9 years.

Large farms, big problems?
It is not correct to think that a small park has less complexities than a large one. On the contrary, sometimes the complexities of a small one are greater. In a large farm a setback in the logistics or in the planning of the construction allows to advance in other fronts. There are wind farms in Argentina that have 40 wind turbines (for example). In this scheme you can reprogram and save delays in organization or logistics. On the other hand, in a small wind farm there is no such margin of error, so you have to spin much thinner and to be an expert you need to have experience in these projects. By having the experience in Uruguay of having built all those small parks, we have managed to generate a system of extreme coordination work, which has allowed us to add antecedents in this country.

How do you see the conditions for development due to the interest rates, and the country risk which discourage investors. What image do you have of the market considerning this scenario?
Argentina is a country with a natural wealth that is impossible to ignore, with enviable wind and solar resources. We are convinced that the country has been progressing to become one of the reference countries in renewable energy.
The entire continent has begun to incorporate renewables into its energy matrix, and Argentina will not be the exception. This is the impression we have from Ventus. We bet on Argentina, our largest flow of resources is here.

There has been an extension for the MiniRen. It seems that they have good prospects for the tender.
MiniRen proposes projects from 0.5 MW to 10 MW from wind or solar technology. This instance for Ventus is very important because we are specialists in building farms of those installed powers. We have done it, and we have done well. In this opportunity we are working together with other actors within the market that -in the case of being awarded a project- would allow us to build those projects to obtain greater economies of scale and therefore better returns for these investments. It is Ventus’ great bet because an ideal field has been created for us.

In what other countries is Ventus working?
Last year we opened offices in Bogotá, Colombia where there is a fertile field for renewables. Colombia is today in the same situation in which Argentina was in 2016 in terms of renewables. There is a lot to do in this market, where we have a local team working.
We have also opened an offices in Santiago de Chile. Chile is a country that also offers many opportunities in renewable energy, although with a much more mature and competitive market. We have provided services for all the countries of the continent from our offices in Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia.

[/tp]

[tp lang=»es» not_in=»en»] Ventus es una empresa uruguaya dedicada a la ingeniería y construcción de parques eólicos y solares, así como la operación y el mantenimiento de los mismos.
